Southwest Durham's Fairfield Neighborhood Curator: Michele Wright

Less than a half mile from the American Tobacco Trail and Herndon Park, Fairfield is one of the few remaining sweet spots in Southwest Durham still outside the city limits (no city taxes!!) The drive past Herndon Hills Farm (pick your own strawberries, blueberries, and grapes!) feels like rural North Carolina, but not to worry—it's less than two miles from the urban bustle of Southpoint!

Fabulous Active Adult Communities in the Greater Chapel Hill Area

Are you curious about active adult community living here in the Chapel Hill area? They can provide many advantages and allow you to enjoy an active lifestyle with other folks with similar interests. Pickleball anyone? Perhaps the best perk of living in 55+ communities is that they provide amenities galore. Many include a snazzy clubhouse, pool, tennis (and pickleball) courts as well as a vibrant calendar of events and volunteer opportunities. Your HOA dues will go toward covering exterior maintenance costs and most amenities. Active adult communities are becoming more and more popular in the U.S. and our area has some of the best. You may be familiar with the wonderful Del Webb communities Carolina Preserve and Carolina Arbors, but I have highlighted several in the Chapel Hill and Hillsborough areas that are also worth a look! Fearrington Village

Fearrington Village is a unique community just 10 minutes south of Chapel Hill. Known for its fenced fields with Belted Galloway Cows (their trunks look like Oreos!) The Village center boasts a five star hotel and restaurant, plus shops, eateries, an incredible book store, and The Barn, where regular events and festivals are held. A favorite locale of retirees, properties include townhomes, patio homes and single family homes on both small and large lots. Residents enjoy abundant outdoor activities, from the swim & croquet club, to miles of walking trails along creeks and ponds, tennis and bocce. Curator: Wendy Tanson
