  • Room: Now that the kids are grown, the workshop is by far my favorite place on the property.
  • Tree: Being an architect, about 35 years ago I visited the Chicago home of Frank Lloyd Wright, where there is an enormous Ginkgo tree. I transplanted 10 saplings from this tree, 3 are thriving in the front yard at Tipton.
  • Walk: There are trails through the woods behind the workshop, and we built a bridge across our creek. This walk is lovely in fall.
  • Hike: Weaverville is an amazing location for access to the Blue Ridge Parkway. We have enjoyed this proximity for years.
  • Breakfast: Well Bred, Stoney Knob Cafe, and Yellow Mug are our favorite local breakfast places.
  • Lunch: Main Street Grill has amazing burgers and ice cold beer.
  • Dinner: We love Stoney Knob for dinner, and Soba has excellent sushi.
  • Pub/Winery: Eluvium Brewing Company is our go-to meetup place, and the taco stand is fantastic.
  • Living Here Has Been: We have loved living in the house at 20 Tipton for all these years, raising a family, hosting friends, making stuff in our workshop, bonfires, playing in the creek, growing gardens, watching the seasons pass. It's a wonderful place to live.
